HHR Working Section
August Bank Holiday, Sunday & Monday
The Working section at Honiton Hill Rally goes all the way back to the beginning of the show with local people demonstrating their old machinery, very little has changed.
HHR where possible (weather permitting!), has working demonstrations of corn cutting, ploughing, baling, threshing, combining and sawing wood. In the working rings you will find a thresher for threshing corn with an old straw elevator, and a reed comber showing how reed for thatching is made in to bundles with an old engine driven baler baling the straw.
Also there is a working saw bench normally driven by steam sawing up large trunks and stumps, using traditional methods and tools. In recent years there has been a large number of classic combine harvesters attending our rally, these show the mechanisation of mobile threshing through the ages as opposed to the stationary threshing machines.
We also sometimes see the Tractor Exhibitors coming up to the working area for ploughing & cultivating, and have a number of tractor & implement entries, e.g. tractors with seed drills, grinding mills and winches etc. I would highly recommend talking to the people working these machines, I know they would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
